Gilgandra Community Health Vision

The “Towards 5000 Community Health Vision” initiative by Gilgandra Shire Council is strategically designed to enhance the health and well-being of its growing population, aiming to reach a milestone of 5,000 residents. This vision recognises the need for a community-wide effort to support and improve health as Gilgandra expands, reflecting the commitment to inclusive growth and well-being.

This strategy is the culmination of a comprehensive review of existing health services, demographic trends, and infrastructure, alongside significant community and stakeholder engagement. This engagement process included surveys, community workshops, and consultations with healthcare providers, ensuring that the strategy reflects the needs and aspirations of all community members.

Childcare Strategy (0-12)

Gilgandra Shire Council has developed this strategy to guide its work with the community to match the provision of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) across the Gilgandra Region to the community’s needs and aspirations.

We want Gilgandra to be an attractive and nurturing place for families with children. Childcare is an important contributor towards: improving outcomes for local children, enabling parents and carers to work or study as much as they want to, attracting people to the area, and boosting the workforce available for employment. Having enough childcare is vital for Gilgandra to achieve its goals for growth and wellbeing.

Village Management Plans (Tooraweenah & Armatree)

The Draft Village Management Plans for Tooraweenah and Armatree aim to serve future Village aspirations and issues, and showcase improvements to service delivery and community assets in attempt to reflect our community's priorities.

Gilgandra Green Spaces Strategy

To assist in planning our future as part of our Towards 5000 vision, and in collaboration with the 2034 Community Strategic Plan, Council is currently working on the Green Space Strategy. Consultants Better Cities Group are working with Council on this project to ensure Gilgandra’s parks, sports fields and civic areas meet community needs now and into the future.

The community consultation phase for this strategy has been completed. A Draft Strategy will be available for viewing soon.

 

Youth Strategy

Recognising the essential role that our children and young people play in shaping the future of the region, Gilgandra Shire Council is creating our first Youth Strategy. The Strategy is being developed with the assistance of an expert team from the University of Newcastle.

Similar to Council's other Towards 5000 Strategies, the Youth Strategy will identify and outline objectives, priorities, and actions for the Council and stakeholders to deliver. These efforts aim to make Gilgandra a great place for children and young people to live, both today and in the future.
