Warrumbungle National Park

Take a scenic drive 

When adventure beckons take the scenic drive through Tooraweenah to the National Park. After leaving Gilgandra travel north on the Newell Highway for 39kms, then turn left  to  take Touring Route No. 1 and meander through the scenic Warrumbungle Tourist Drive onto Coonabarabran. The road is bitumen & fully sealed all the way and is an alternate route to Coonabarabran through the National Park. 

Viewing Platform at Tooraweenah 

After turning off the Newell Highway and embarking on Touring Route No1, travel for 1km, pull over to the left and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Warrumbungles from the Tooraweenah Viewing platform. An ideal location for photographs, a picnic lunch, or a stop and stretch.

Warrumbungle National Park

Warrumbungle National Park is Australia's only Dark Sky Park in Australia.

Tooraweenah lies about a 10 minute drive, just south of the Warrumbungles with its scenic rocky spires and gorges and a large variety of wildlife.

There are several well marked easy walking tracks, and camping.

The Warrumbungles iconic mountain range originated from an extinct shield volcano and it's the perfect destination for bushwalking, climbing and stargazing.

It hosts Australia's largest optical telescope at Siding Spring Observatory, part of the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (RSAA) at the Australian National University (ANU).
