Gilgandra Shop Local Promotion 2017

Shop Local Christmas Promotion Underway for 2017

The 2017 Christmas Shop Local Promotion started Monday 6 November 2017 and marks the 9th year of the promotion. As previously promoted throughout the community, Gilgandra Shire Council has fully funded the project to encourage all businesses in the Gilgandra Shire to participate and offer an even greater incentive to local residents to look at supporting local businesses when doing their Christmas shopping.

The promotion has been a highly successful project in providing an incentive with the past eight years resulting in 155,000 entries with a combined value of over $35 million. In addition, $66,000 has been returned to 55 different local participating businesses by prize winners.

On top of removing the cost burden on local businesses to fund the promotion for this year, the $10,000 Coo-ee Cash prize can be spent with any business in the Gilgandra Shire which will provide another positive boost to local businesses.

Economic Development Manager, Randall Medd said the rules and the way the promotion works is exactly the same as the past eight years.

“It is still the $200 in original tax invoice receipts, put them in the official envelope and into the red barrel that moves around Miller Street. The only difference is that’s its all businesses that want to support the promotion and not just those that elected to pay in.

Randall added

“There is no onus on businesses to change their current practices, they don’t have to do things like break up large transactions into $200 amounts. This is not aimed at being an added task for local businesses, this project is aimed at creating a positive feel in local businesses and good outcomes for our local enconomy.”

The promotion will start on Monday 6 November and the $10,000 Coo-ee Cash will be drawn in the Gilgandra Community Plaza on Saturday 23 December at 12 noon. Any business that does not have a poster or envelopes or simply has a question about the Shop Local Promotion they are encouraged to contact Randall Medd on 68178800
