Gilgandra Shire Council manages the Cooee Lodge Retirement Village and Jack Towney Hostel.

Cooee Lodge Retirement Village (Cooee Drive, Gilgandra)

Cooee Lodge Retirement Village is located in a beautiful rural setting in close proximity to the CBD and Hospital  The Village offers a range of affordable accommodation types to cater for the elderly including:

• 61 self care Villa Units
• 40 bed Hostel
• 10 bed Special Care (Dementia) Wing
• Community Home Care Packages

Self Care Villa Units

A combination of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom style villa units exist within the Village.

We are recently build 3 additional villa units and have scope for another 2.  Please contact us if you are interesting in designing and building your own new unit.

Cooee Lodge Hostel

The Commonwealth Government has set “outcome standards” for hostels and we at Cooee Lodge Hostel pride ourselves in meeting these standards and maintaining our accreditation.

The Hostel has 40 single units, however adjoining rooms suitable for couples may be available on request.  Each room has individually controlled reverse cycle air-conditioning, ensuite, ample wardrobe, drawer and bench space.

Hostel Residents receive assistance and support with their day-to-day needs, whilst still maintaining their independence. Entertainment and social activities are arranged and residents can participate as much or as little as they please. The design of the residential care building creates a safe environment for residents.

Cooee Lodge Special Care (Dementia) Wing

The 10 bed Special Care Wing was purpose built in 2007 and provides assistance with daily living activities, nursing care and support with health, physical and social needs for those residents suffering from dementia or needing extra care.

Jack Towney Hostel (5 Stockings Crescent, Gilgandra)

Jack Towney Hostel is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aged Care facility which is funded by the Department of Health & Ageing.

The Hostel is funded for 13 places - residents receive assistance and support with daily living while being encouraged to maintain their independence.

Situated next to bushlands, residents enjoy beautiful sunsets of an evening and visits from local wildlife on a daily basis whilst sitting on their own front patio.

The Hostel is an open plan facility which creates a home like environment. Each of the units is equipped with kitchenette, ensuite, reverse cycle air conditioning, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, kettle, electric high/low bed, television, recliner chair, dining table and chairs.

Residents are supported by 24 hour personal care staff with cleaning and laundry services provided.
